In the golden autumn season, osmanthus flowers are in full bloom. On the afternoon of September 4th, 527 freshmen of the 2024 batch from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering gathered at the gymnasium of Nanhai Campus in Foshan, to jointly attend the opening ceremony for the 2024 freshmen of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, South China Normal University. Wu Lan, the Party Secretary of the College of Engineering, Han Peng, the Deputy Director of the College of Engineering, Xu Yongwang, the Deputy Secretary and Discipline Inspection Commissioner of the College of Engineering, Song Hui, a representative teacher from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering (Microelectronics College), and Zhou Yuquan, Chen Yu, and Yang Chuyun, the counselors of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering (Microelectronics College), along with all the freshmen of the 2024 batch, attended the ceremony. The event was hosted by Yang Chuyun, the counselor for the 2024 undergraduate students.

The opening ceremony officially kicked off with the solemn and majestic national anthem.

Secretary Wu Lan extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to the students of the 2024 grade. She introduced that since its establishment over three years ago, the College of Engineering has actively responded to the national call for strengthening the country through education and science and technology and optimizing the discipline layout. It has focused on electronic information technologies such as chip and integrated technology, educational intelligence, brain-like chips, and intelligent networking, tackled the core technologies of semiconductor materials, devices, chips, and integrated circuits, promoted cross-disciplinary innovation, and achieved results in multiple fields including discipline construction, scientific research innovation, faculty teams, talent cultivation, and social services. She expected the new students to study diligently and live happily at Hua Shi University, uphold the university's motto, cultivate creative thinking, develop an enterprising personality, enhance diversified capabilities, and strive to be "three-haves": first, have courage, be brave dream chasers, strivers, and trendsetters of the new era; second, have responsibility, integrate love for the Party and the country and patriotic sentiments into the great cause of building a strong science and technology nation and national rejuvenation; third, have methods, cultivate the 12 new thinking patterns of new engineering talents, make good plans for their own lives, and become better versions of themselves.

Associate Professor Song Hui, on behalf of all the teachers, congratulated the freshmen of the 24th grade and encouraged them to maintain their curiosity and thirst for knowledge during their college life, cultivate the ability of independent thinking, actively participate in practical activities, learn to cooperate and communicate, pay attention to physical and mental health, and be brave in facing the challenges and setbacks in life. All the teachers of the college will do their best to provide a good stage for the students' life.

Wen Tianzhou, a student majoring in Electronic Information Engineering of the 24th grade, expresses his gratitude to the Party and the country for their meticulous cultivation. He shares with his classmates the lines from Tao Yuanming, a poet of the Jin Dynasty: "Youth will not come again, nor will a day return. Seize the moment and strive; time waits for no man." He urges everyone to cherish every minute and second of their college life, live up to their prime years, and shine in their youth through hard work, writing a brilliant chapter in their lives and contributing their youthful strength to the realization of the Chinese Dream.

Peng Dongyi, a postgraduate student of the 24th grade, expressed her great honor to enter her dream university and become a member of Huazhong Normal University. The brand-new dream of Huazhong Normal University has been initiated, and a new journey has begun. She encouraged her fellow students to gallop towards the shore of their dreams with hard work as their steed, realizing the value of their youth; to achieve the greater good through the accumulation of small efforts and to contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Vice Minister Han Peng presented books to the freshmen, expressing his expectations for the new engineering students to cherish reading, think actively and critically, reflect on life through reading, sharpen their thoughts, always maintain a peaceful state of mind and never forget their original intentions, so that they can go further and better in life.

The opening ceremony for the 2024 grade of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering (School of Microelectronics) came to an end with the school song.
