The Faculty of Engineering of South China Normal University is a teaching and research institution jointly established by Department of Education of Guangdong Provincial , the People's Government of Foshan Municipality , Nanhai People's Government and South China Normal University. It consists of School of Semiconductor Science and Technology, School of Electronic and Information Engineering, School of Artificial Intelligence and Beidou Research Institute. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Engineering has always adhered to the construction principle of "what Foshan needs, what the university is capable of, both sides do all in their power , co-construction and sharing", strictly followed the school-running criteria of "high level, high grade and high quality", and actively implemented the school-running orientation of "new engineering, interdisciplinary, international and research-oriented". Centering on the six pillar industries of semiconductor, microelectronics (integrated circuit), communication engineering, artificial intelligence, Beidou high precision orientation and hydrogen energy, we will carry out talent cultivation , scientific research, discipline construction, transformation of scientific research achievements and construction of high-level teaching staff. It is committed to becoming a special area for cultivating "new engineering" talents, a pilot area for system and mechanism reform, a pilot area for transforming scientific research achievements, and a demonstration area for industry-university-research cooperation.

The Faculty of Engineering of South China Normal University came into being, which is highly in line with the China’s national development strategy.  President Xi Jinping pointed out ,” Information has brought a golden opporunity to the Chinese nation ” ” We must grasp the historical opportunity of information development ”. Integrated circuits, next-generation communications technologies, artificial intelligence, and Beidou high precision orientation are key technologies for national development and key tool for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The Faculty of Engineering of South China Normal University dares to be the first to innovate and lead the frontier of discipline development. Physics has been listed in the  "World-class Disciplines" construction list, optics has been listed in the national key disciplines of China , and it has  doctor's and master's degree programs and post-doctoral research station in first-level disciplines of physics, electronic Science and technology . Electronic Information Science and technology has been awarded the national first-class professional construction site, and Electronic Information engineering has been awarded the provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction site. Artificial intelligence is one of the first 35 university which gain admission of China. It has established several research platforms, such as Guangdong Key Laboratory of Chip and Integration Technology and Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center of Optoelectronic Testing Instruments. Its basic research and applied basic research in semiconductor devices, electronic information, artificial intelligence and other fields rank among the top of the province and even the country.
